Does the MOT test cover everything?
No. Whilst the MOT test forms a comprehensive vehicle inspection and provides a good barometer of the overall condition of a vehicle at the time of its test, it does not cover everything.
For example, elements that are not tested include, the removal of parts as the MOT test consists of a visual inspection and does not require dismantling. This means not all defects may be visible, although doors, boot lids, and other access points typically need to be opened. What is not evaluated during the MOT test is engine oil quality which is essential for protecting vital engine components and must be maintained through regular servicing to ensure your vehicle’s longevity. Also wheel alignment, since while damage or wear to other parts can suggest misalignment, this is also not evaluated during the MOT test and it is therefore advisable to have your wheel alignment checked every two to three years and following any impact to the wheels.
